Half Ironman Triathlon 70.3

the big day for Kendall's Triathlon finally arrived yesterday, Saturday, and he did such an awesome job! we are all so proud of him for training so hard and finishing so well! it's a long race, 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. in that order...brutal, i can't even imagine it! and he did it in just under 7 and 1/2 hours:)  Great job honey! the race was in Show Low and Kendall and some of his family went up to stay in a hotel the night before because the race started at 6:30 in the morning...we drove up on the day of the race, after breakfast and a quick trip to the store....

one thing we got at the store, on our quick trip, was doughnuts (avery opted for no doughnut...crazy girl:)) but blake thoroughly enjoyed his...click on the picture to make it bigger, he's got glaze dried on his face, looks like he had fun!

blake and nana kara at the race, there was a bit of waiting around but we found things to do...play area, the kids exploring nature etc:)

ethan waiting for dad to come down the home stretch...

papa kyle, katie, kraig and you can just see avery's leg...

avery and papa

here's kendall halfway through the run...

done!!! coming down the last little bit...

he did a great job, still moving great at the end! didn't even cramp up or anything!

BIG FINISH!!!

all i can say is i am wowed!!! he did such a great job and we are all so excited and proud of him for doing this! ethan asked him in the car on the way home, when he was going to do a full ironman...probably never was the answer:)  kendall feels that his schedule is more suited to training sufficiently for the olympic distance (which he has done before) and trying to improve his times on that race...so that may be what is next on the agenda as far as training goes...after a good long rest!!!! and some aloe for our sunburns, didn't think to bring sunscreen! what was i thinking?
